FUNDAMENTALS OF VISUAL LEARNING-
Introduction
-The main objective of this project was to understand and learn, how to manipulate and play with different shapes, dots, textures and lines using different black and grey mediums.
Reflective writing
-The short video shown on the very first day made me realize that a line is not just a line but it can represent different emotions and feelings, just like we represented emotions like power and confusion in our project also a line can form different shapes and angles and it has many types.
eg-Depicting power by making the square in between big and opaque, whereas emphasizing less on other squares.
-A dot and a line may seem very simple but have the potential to represent different shapes, textures, objects and even emotions by manipulating the size, texture and the opacity.

-While using different grades of pencils to create 3d effects and tonal gradation, I realized how each and every grade like 2b,4b,6b,8b etc. have a different shade and a tone of their own, the color keeps on becoming dark as we move ahead in numbers, the tones can also be manipulated by the pressure that we apply
-for example, a 6b pencil used with a very little pressure can give 2b shade and if used with a lot of pressure can also give a 8b shade.
-working with different mediums was a bit challenging, I was already familiar with pencils and micro tip pens, but both charcoal and ink were new for me. Ink became my favorite medium, though at first I found it difficult to use as it was too liquidy but once I started using it, it gave the best textures. Even charcoal was good for textures but I found it too messy to use.
Textures using micro tip pens-
smooth, intricate, time consuming
Textures using ink-
realistic, less time consuming, fun to make, little messy.
Textures using charcoal-
rough, messy, realistic, difficult to make intricate textures.
THEMATIC REPRESENTATIONS-
-While making cloud and rain through circular dots, I had to think a lot...
At first I thought of a heavy grey cloud, just when it is about to rain heavily, I tried to draw it using rough, dark and thick lines.
-Then I though of another cloud which is light weight, soft and fluffy. For that I had to use my pencils with less pressure and no boldness, just soft lines.
heavy grey cloud before rain
soft, light weight and fluffy cloud
Rain was comparatively easier to depict as I just filled my whole a3 size page with different sizes of circular dots, it created an effect of heavy rain.

DDD-Daily Design Documentation
My most effective drawing done so far is of the sports shoes, as I am easily able to draw its different angles because the shape is comparatively easier to draw, whereas making heels and flats is a bit tricky, though the side angles are easier to draw but I am facing a difficulty in drawing the front and the half front angles. I also experimented with my mediums, in week one I only used pencils but in week two I moved onto pens and marker. I found using pens and marker better as it added more volume to my sketches.
CONCLUSION-
MUDDIEST POINT- The most confusing part for me was capturing the 3d form of objects using dots and shapes, I had to think and struggle a lot while doing and finally I was able to achieve my outcome by manipulating the tones and size of the dots.
SLIDESHOW-
CLEAREST POINT-I was the most clear and confident about the task where we had to make textures using different mediums, I found it the most fun activity of all. Using ink was my favorite part as it gave excellent and very real textures, I even got a lot appreciation from sir for my textures.
KEY LEARNINGS-
1- Dots can be of any shape and any size, not just circular and small.
2-Different dots and shapes can create different objects.
3-A shape can be used to create a shape, for example making a square using triangles.
4-Different mediums give different textures, for example with charcoal we get rough and realistic textures, ink gives very smooth and real textures and pens and marker give intricate textures.
5-Manipulating the size, tone, shape can create 3d forms of objects.
- Don't forget to have fun while working.
-Be free and go wild while exploring and don't restrict yourself.
-Don't worry too much regarding the outcome, focus more on the process.
Got to learn a lot about visual elements of design, like how can different dots, lines, shapes, sizes, tones, textures and 3d objects can be used to express intangible aspects. What kept me engaging was the enthusiasm of my classmates and the way Kishore sir and Josh sir gave interesting examples and interacted with us in a very fun way. They showed us a music video of different instruments every morning and told us to relate with them while making our explorations, I found this quite interesting. They interacting with us and made us laugh a lot, I didn't feel bored even for a second during the whole project and of course learned so much during the whole process!
