-Sometimes things don't turn out the way we expected them to be, but it's fun to explore everything and then figure out the final outcome along the way.
INTRODUCTION-
-This project familiarized us with the adobe illustrator and helped us to step by step understand the creative process involved in a project.
-we enhanced our technical skills as well as creative learning.
CREATIVE PROCESS-
-We followed an Iterative approach to idea development: The iterative process is an approach that designers, developers, educators, and others use to continually improve a design or product.
-For me iterative approach has been a process that helped me think and rethink my ideas, it gave me time to revisit and improve my work from time to time until I was satisfied with the outcome.
for example: I drew 3-4 hand drawn maps until I selected the final one, I also worked upon the line drawing 2-3 times using different tools and techniques.
BENEFITS-
1.It was efficient as I was able step-by-step work on my map, rather than having to rework entire plan as changes occur. |
2.It made it easier for me to identify defects early in the process and gave a clear picture of the status of my project. |
3.It offered continual improvement. Each iteration allowed me to to easily incorporate any lessons learned from previous mistakes and continually improve the development process. eg the first digital line drawing that I made was not so good but I learned a lot from it and applied that learning on my second line drawing and I was able to achieve what I wanted. |
4.I could get feedbacks after each stage and thus improve even further. |
CHALLENGES-
It was difficult to understand it at first as we were new to this platform. But constant practice and explorations helped me overcome this |
The process was very time consuming as I revisited my work again again to improve it further. |
It also got tedious and monotonous when I was making the digital line drawing and was getting confused while selecting the textures for the roads and lanes. |
-This approach was very different from what I was used to doing as, earlier I used to plan out the whole thing or the final outcome at once and then work upon it, I used to pre decide everything, but during this project I had no clear idea about how would my final map look like, I figured out everything step by step as things came up.
VISUAL COMMUNICATION-
I explored different textures on the roads to add the aesthetic and the safe vibe. All different textures were adding their own uniqueness into the map.
Some added a realistic look, while some added a 3-d effect and the one that I finally chose was the water color texture that added a soft, subtle and aesthetic look to my map.
I had to reject 3-4 options as they were looking too loud and harsh and also my icons were very detailed so I wanted to strike out a balance by making the roads soft and subtle.
Adding textures also added volume and 3dness into the map and made it visually appealing.
During this whole process I learnt that how even a small change in the thickness, texture, color or shape can change the overall visual look of your map.
CONCLUSION-
Strengths-
I was successfully able to carry out my icon explorations, I tried making 4-5 options for my each icon so that I can try different options and choose the best one, I wanted to have options for my icons.
-I was also successfully able to add the intended vibe which was peaceful, calm and aesthetic to my map by adding soft pastel colors and the subtle water color texture on the roads
CHALLENGES AND BARRIERS-
-Making the digital line drawing was seeming an impossible job for me as it was the first task to do on the illustrator, I struggled a lot, but after taking extra doubt classes from lovelish sir, learning from my classmates on video call and practicing the tools by myself helped me overcome this challenge.
KEY LEARNINGS-
Sometimes things don't turn out the way we expected them to be, but it's fun to explore everything and then figure out the final outcome along the way.
Doing various explorations for the purpose of learning and not just for the sake of submissions was one thing that helped me reach my final outcome.
Most importantly, I learnt how to use illustrator as I was really scared when I got know that we are starting with this software, I always thought I am really bad at this software and technical stuff, but turns out that I was just scared of using it, as when I tried I was able to work on it quite well.
So it feels good coming out of your comfort zone and trying things that you haven't tried before without feeling the fear of failure.
When you practice, you get better. It’s very simple.
