ISOMETRIC- Isometric means having equal measure.
Isometric system of drawing-
A method of visually representing three dimensional forms on a two dimensional surface.
It captures height, width and depth, of an object in a single view.
My learnings and realisations-
Isometric drawing helped me understand the overall shape, size and the appearance of an object in totality.
I realised that mostly all the alphabets consist of cubes and cuboids.
I could connect this project with F2F where in we learnt how to do addition and subtraction using forms like cubes and cuboids. Just as we did here in the warm-up activity and also while drawing various alphabets.
The objects/letters are viewed along parallel lines that are perpendicular to the plane of the drawing.
It takes a lot of time and practice to get used to it and get the precision and neatness.
At first I thought that Isometric drawing is related to geometry, but its not the like the geometry we learnt in our maths class, its different, its more of a designer's geometry.
It is also different from perspective drawings as perspective drawings mimic what the human eye perceives, so objects appear smaller the further away they are from the viewer. In contrast, isometric drawings use parallel projection, which means objects remain at the same size, no matter how far away they are and also without any visual distortion.
I have realised that I have shown a lot of improvement since my day 1 warm-up drawings and what I have done on day-3 and day-4, so basically the more you practice, the more you learn.
It has also improved my visual skills a lot, and I even practiced a few letters without the grid, to get more clarity.
The most difficult part for me was making the curved letters as I had to figure out the points on the lines and use a more technical approach to make them.
So the main thing to keep in my mind is the proportion of the object that you are making and that it is viewed along parallel lines that are perpendicular to the plane of the drawing.
Also be patient while doing it and keep remaking it and practicing it until and unless you get the correct size and proportion.
