Scale & Context-Altering perception Activity-2

Introduction & Warm up activity-

Scale refers to the size, extent or the dimension of the object, whereas Context is the environment, setting or the circumstance within which certain things happen or exists.

In the introduction and warm up activity we understood the importance and relation between space and context. With the help of the traffic cone example we understood that how manipulating the size of an object can change the context too. For example by increasing the size it became a seating statue and by decreasing the size it became an ornament(earrings). We also saw an example of how an ice-cream can be used as a bulb holder or used as furniture by manipulating the size and the material.

Main Activity

I used a tissue holder and increased its size, tilted it a bit and made it into a slide. I had to add the ladder part to make it look like slide. In order to depict the enlarged size I added the little kids playing in the background. By this I learnt that how increasing the size can change the purpose and context of an object

Example 2

In this I increased the size of the tissue holder and inverted it to make it look like table. This table can be used at a restaurant. Here I have only manipulated the size and not the material. I could have added stands at the bottom of the table for the support.

REFLECTION-

-I learnt how scale and context are interrelated as when I increased the size of my object, the context also changed.

-I learnt how scale plays an important role in the environment, for example in the warm up activity we were given the example of a traffic cone and how increasing or decreasing the scale changed the whole significance of the object.

-I also learnt how different objects can be used differently by manipulating the scale and changing the context. for example when I increased the size of my object that was a tissue paper holder, it was used as a slide and a table.

- I should have added a few more elements in my depictions. for example a stand for my table.

-I learnt that how important it is to look beyond your imagination.
